Biographical Sketch:
Son of Samuel and Julia Ann (Smith) Judd. He came to Grand Rapids, MI in October 1852. He worked with his father for 2 years in a butcher business. He enlisted in the 3d Michigan Infantry in 1861. Wounded in the Battle of Fair Oaks in 1862 and subsequently entered the U.S. Veterans Reserve Corps and placed in charge of an indian prison in Davenport, IA. From 1866-70 he was employed in the Freedmen's Bureau in the South. He was made Commandant of the Michigan State Soldiers' Home in Grand Rapids, 1898.
Notable Facts:
Lost an arm in the Civil War.
Died of apoplexy.
