Biographical Sketch:
At 16 he began working for the American Fur Company in the northwest, arriving at Mackinaw at age 17. He then went to Green BAy and Fort Winnebago, remaining there until age 24 when he was appointed Deputy Indian Agent for the [old] Northwest Territory in 1834 and served for 7 years. He settled in Detroit in 1843. He served as clerk to the House of Representatives, 1851-51 and as sergent at arms in the 1850 Constitutional Convention and deputy collector for the port. He was city treasurer for Detroit in 1862.
