Served for 12 years as a county commissioner representing Holland City and Park Township; first woman elected chair of the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners in 1989 and 1990; represented the 55th Representative District from 1991 to 1992; 90th Representative District from 1993 to 1998. Member of Christ Memorial Church in Holland, MI. A past president of the Holland Historical Trust as well as the Margaret Hummer Hospital Guild and the Holland Junior Welfare League. She was a charter member of the Holland League of Women Voters and a member of many other organizations. A life mernber of Kappa Alpha Theta at Michigan State University,
