Biographical Sketch:
Of German ancestry. Son of George and Rebecca (Hampton) Pealer. He volunteered as a private soldier in the 16th PA Cavalry, 9/9/1862; later was promoted to Sgt Major of his regiment "for meritorious conduct as a soldier," and afterwards commissioned 2nd, then 1st Lieutenant; was wounded at Hatcher's Run, VA, 2/6/1865, while in command of his battalion and leading it in a charge; took part in 35 battles and cavalry engagements, and was discharged with his regiment, 8/11/1865. After the Civil War, he engaged in surveying and studied law in Bloomsburg, PA; admitted to the bar 9/3/1867. He came to Three Rivers, MI, 11/12/1867, and practiced of law. He served on school and other local boards, was twice elected Circuit Court Commissioner, was prosecuting attorney of his county 3 years; elected and served as Judge of the 15th Judicial Circuit for 6 years. He was president of the First National Bank of Three Rivers; Member and officer in the GAR; member of the Masons, Knights Templar.
