Biographical Sketch:
Native of New York and son of Oren Abbott. He served as a school master in New York before obtaining a dry goods store position in Clinton, NY, 1860. He developed considerable mechanical talent and inventive genius. In 1867, he had a dry goods business at Adrian, MI; a few years later, he began manufacturing his own inventions. Settled in Hudson, MI, 1878, and continued his manufactures. The best known of his inventions were the Abbott Voting Machine, the Abbott Hub Borer, and various other devices necessary in the manufacture of carriages. In 1861, he enlisted in U.S. Army Company A, 1st NY artillery; 1862, discharged for physical disability. He was the President of the village Hudson, MI for over three years.
