Son of James F. and Honor (Hull) Baker. Raise on a farm. Enlisted in the 102nd Ohio Infantry at 17, 8/13/1862; later served in Co. K, 178th Ohio Infantry; mustered out as a corporal. Returned to school after the war. Served as township clerk, justice of the peace and supervisor. Member of the G.A.R. Listed as a railroad contractor, living in Watervliet, MI, on the 1910 Census.
