Biographical Sketch:
Of English and Welsh descent. Son of Ambrose and Mary (Jones) Burr. He enlisted in Co. H , 1st Michigan Cavalry during the Civil War. Early in 1863, he was promoted to commissary sergeant and on Dec. 31, 1863, re-enlisted, and at Winchester was again wounded. In June, 1865, was discharged for disability, at St. Louis, MO, and returned to Michigan.He moved to Jackson Co., MI in 1867 and to Pontiac in 1869. That year he also purchased timberland in Lincoln Twp, Isabella Co. He served as justice of the peace and supervisor and other minor offices

Notable Facts:
He participated in three general engagements , the second battle of Bull Run , Gettysburg and Winchester. Wounded at Gettysburg.
