Biographical Sketch:
Scottish and English ancestry. Son of George Damon (1807-1860) and Mary (Tyler) Damon (1811-1864). His family moved to Dane County, WI in 1855. He taught for 2 terms before moving to Beloit, WI, where he worked as clerk in drug business; enlisted in the US Army, 1871-76; moved to Millington, MI in 1876, continuing in the drug and grocery business. He served as Millington village president [1888], treasurer, president of the school board and township superintendent of schools. In 1891, he sold his business and moved to Georgia to be a manufacturer but returned the following year. He opened drug and grocery businesses first in Hubbardston and, 2 years later, in Weidman. His stored burned in 1897 but was rebuilt and expanded. He was elected Isabella County treasurer in 1906 and 1908. He sold his business in Weidman and moved to Mt. Pleasant where he again went into the drug and grocery business, adding other merchandise. He maintain interests in the Weidman Banking Co. and the Holmes Milling Co., being vice president of each.
