Biographical Sketch:
While in his teens began the study of law in the office of Larned & Hebden. He was commissioned as major of the 6th Tennessee Volunteer Infantry, when he was 16. He was admitted to the bar in February, 1869. He ran for circuit court commissioner in 1874 and won 2 more terms. He was a member of the board of estimates for Detroit in 1887. He was involved in real estate, newspaper, and other business ventures.
Notable Facts:
"To him in no small degree is due the credit of laying out the magnificent boule- vard that girdles Detroit with a continuous park."
