Biographical Sketch:
Of Irish and English descent. Son of Daniel and Elizabeth (Kinread) Dougherty. Apprenticed as a shipbuilder and became a master. Moved to Charlevoix, MI in Nov. 1868, then to Elk Rapids in 1876. In Elk Rapids, he was foreman of the Elk Rapids Iron Co. shipyard. He served as supervisor of Charlevoix, 3 years, and was elected township clerk of Elk Rapids 8 times in succession.
