Came to Michigan around 1863. During the Civil War, he served in the 4th Michigan Infantry. He served as president of the village of Coopersville.
Notable Facts:
John Van Buren Goodrich enlisted as a Private in Company A of the Fourth Michigan Volunteer Infantry on September 17, 1861, for 3 years service. He was discharged for disability on December 10, 1862, at Falmouth, Virginia. He then enlisted in the Independent Company of the Fourth Michigan Volunteer Infantry on February 6, 1864, for 3 years service and was commissioned Second Lieutenant on February 24, 1864. John was on detached service with Company F of the First Michigan Infantry, by order, July 2, 1864, Petersburg, Virginia, and then transferred to Company K of the Reorganized Fourth Michigan Infantry, on July 6, 1865. He resigned and was honorably discharged for disability on July 21, 1865, by General Order # 564, U.S. War Department.
