Biographical Sketch:
He moved to New Albion, NY at 5. At 14, he ventured to California on his own. He stayed in California for 3 year; then 2 years in Virginia. He then went to Minnesota, worked in sawmills and studied law. When the Civil War began, he enlisted in the 3rd Minnesota Regiment, in which he served until the following year, when he was discharged on account of ill health. Upon returning home, he moved with his family to Iowa, where he devoted his time to studying law, and was admitted to the bar in Fayette County, IA, where he practiced his profession until the summer of 1864, when he again became a soldier, enlisting in the Eighth Iowa Cavalry, serving until the close of the war. He again returned to New York and soon thereafter came to Michigan and located in the Saginaw Valley. There he abandoned his profession on account of his health, and engaged in the lumber business. He was a member of the firm of Green & Stevens, of Bay City. He served as a member of the Board of Supervisors of Bay county, and a member of the Board of Education of Bay City. Member of the Elks, G.A.R. and Masons.
