Biographical Sketch:
Son of Elijah L. and Lois N. (Thomar) Manly. He served in Co. A, 1st Regt. Michigan Infantry; wounded twice and lost his left arm at the battle of Gettysburg, July 2, 1863. He served as city collector, city recorder, justice of the peace and register of deeds 3 times. Elected mayor of Ann Arbor,1890. He moved to Jackson in 1899. In 1911, he became deputy county treasurer there. He was appointed chief probation officer in Jackson, 1916.

Struck and killed by a Michigan Central passenger train on his way to his office.
