Biographical Sketch:
His parents, George and Jane (Gummer) emigrated to Sackett's Harbor, Jefferson County, NY, June, 1854, where George was raised on a farm. He came to Mason County, MI, in 1874, where he taught in the public schools some time, and worked in a factory at Amber until 1880, when he engaged to work for Crowley & Scott in a store just opened in the new town of Scottville, and remained in their employ until 1882, when, with W. A. Bailey, he engaged in the manufacture of wooden bowls, which enterprise and a store of general merchandise, he, with 2 younger brothers, purchased Mr. Bailey's interest. He sold his interest in 1894. He served as justice of the peace 2 terms, village trustee and was second president of the village. Member of the Masons and Odd Fellows
