Biographical Sketch:
Son of Deacon Elisha and Laura (Sampson) Russ. He was raised on a farm in West Bloomfield , Ontario county , NY. He became a resident of Hillsdale County in May, 1851, farming and engaged at a sawmill. He sailed from New York to California 2/5/1852. He settled in the village of North Adams in November, 1867, where, for nearly 5 terms, administered justice to the needy, He was village assessor 3 years and was village attorney and postmaster.
