Biographical Sketch:
Son of Jason and Sarah (Phillips) Winchell. Lived for a short time in Pinckney; He arrived in Detroit in 1833; lived in Lima until 1836, then settled in Ingham Co., MI in 18. He was sheriff of Ingham, Co. for 4 years (1839-42), County Superintendent of Poor for 5 years, drain commissioner for 2 years and held other offices. He was Orderly Sergeant in the Toledo War.

Notable Facts:
He summoned the first jury and opened the first court in Ingham Co. Some sources give his birthplace as Vermont.
