Son of Erastus and Elizabeth (?umley)Williams. practiced law in Rochester, NY before moving to Allegan, MI in 1855; judge of probate 1857-1865. Raised a company for the 5th Michigan Vol. Cavalry & served as a captain; discharged 6/23/1863 but raised the 28th Reg. of Michigan Volunteers. Acted as camp commander at Kalamazoo. Railroad commissioner of Michigan 1877-1883.
