Biographical Sketch:
Of Scottish descent. Son of James and Janet Lockhead. From 1869-70, he was in charge of the schools in Leslie, MI; superintendent of schools in Hastings while studying law, 1870-71. He was admitted to the bar in Hastings in 1871, practicing there briefly before moving back to Almont. He served as township superintendent of schools, 1875-82; township treasurer, 1881-81 and 1885-86; director of the school board, 1876-81 and after 1883; village attorney, 1874-80. He added farming to his resume in 1883.
