Biographical Sketch:
Son of Charles and Clarissa Dupont. He enlisted in the Civil War, 5/16/1861, in Company K, 4th Regiment Michigan Volunteer Infantry, and was wounded while serving as corporal in said company. At the battle of Gaines Mill, 6/24/1862, he was taken prisoner and confined in Libby Prison. In December, 1863, he was commissioned first lieutenant, 13th Michigan Battery, Light Artillery, and was made captain 6/11/1864. He was in command at Fort Stevens, DC, July 11 and 12, 1864, during the battle which was known as the Early and Breckenridge raid on Washington, DC. He organized the Banner Laundering Co. in 1881. He was register of deeds of Wayne County from 1874-76 and worked in the city assessor's office for 6 years. He was active in the state militia. member of the Loyal Legion, the Elks, the Harmonie Society and the Old Club.
Notable Facts:
Death certificate says he was to be buried in Mount Elliott cemetery; Find-a-grave gives death date as the 6th, not the 16th and burial as in Mount Olivet, giving his mother's maiden name as Trimmon, which does not resemble the difficult to read name on the death certificate. Died in office.
