Biographical Sketch:
Son of Silas & Elizabeth (Woodhans) Hastings. Silas died of sunstroke at Vicksburg in 1863 & his wife & son moved to Traverse City. In 1871, Ernest left school & went to Cleveland, OH to learn patternmaking but returned to Traverse City to attend business college. In 1890 he entered the real estate and insurance business. Held several local offices.
