Biographical Sketch:
Son of Abraham and Rachael (Adelslson) Marks. At the age of 8 he became a newsboy continuing in the business for 15 years. He helped organized the Detroit Newsboys' Association. He became a page in the Michigan Senate in 1893. He then became a furrier's apprentice and then a salesman for Walter Buhl and Co. in Detroit until 1898. After 1898, he was associated with Wm. Jackman's Sons, Furriers, of New York City, and Cleveland, OH. He was one of the organizers of the first voter's republican league in 1896, and was elected their president. He is also a member of the United Commercial Travelers ' Association. Member of the Old Newsboys, the Masons, the Phoenix Club, the B'nai B'rith Temple Beth El, the Detroit Consistory and Moslem Shrine.

1901 Manual says he was born in Detroit; other sources point to Russia. His passport application says he was born in Curland, Russia, emigrated in 1880 and was naturalized 10/6/1896. 1900 US Census says he was born in Poland (Russ). Obituary says he was to be buried in Clover Hill Park Cemetery, Royal Oak; Find-a-Grave says Birmingham.
