Biographical Sketch:
Son of Edward E. and Ellen (Colclough?). He emigrated to New York state as a child. He enlisted in Company F, 56th NY Infantry as a private in 1864 and served 6 months. In 1867, he returned to Ireland to fight with the Fenians in their rebellion. He was captured by the British in March 1867, who held him until May 23, when he returned to America, arriving in June 1867. He went to Canada and organized a division of Fenians. When the Canadian government looked to arrest him, he returned to the states. He came to Michigan in 1868 and settled in Jackson. He joined in the National Guard in 1875, rising to the rank of brigadier-general by 1898. He organized Co. H, 1st Regiment (Emmet Rifles), and commanded the company 6 years, and was elected major of the 1st Regiment in March, 1888. He served as superintendent of the poor
