Biographical Sketch:
Son of Elias [or Charles] and Theresa (White or Whitcomb) Powers. At the age of 17 he began clerking in his father's store, and after 13 years became proprietor. Later the business was carried on by he and his brother, C. H. Powers. He was prominent in social and business affairs of his locality. He was a member of the Odd Fellows [I. O. O. F.]; Ancient Order of United Workmen [AOUW]; the Masons; and Knights Templar. He served as village clerk, treasurer, trustee, and as a member of the school board.
