Biographical Sketch:
Son of James E. and Loretta B. Field, who died before his first birthday. Adopted by Rice A., an uncle, and Phoebe (Beers) Beal of Ann Arbor. Editor and proprietor of Ann Arbor Courier, was manager of the Port Huron Gas Company ten years, and Director of the Ann Arbor Electric Light Company and President of the Street Railway connecting Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti.

During his college years he was managing editor of The Chronicle. Presidential Elector for Michigan, 1888; Member, Scottish Rite Masons; Sons of the American Revolution; Freemasons; Knights Templar; Shriners; Rotary; Beta Theta Pi; Phi Beta Kappa. Member of the Public Domain Commission from 1908-1921. Member of the Board of Regents of the University of Michigan, 1908-1939
