Biographical Sketch:
Of Dutch or German descent. Son of Andrew and Mary (Gaven or Garber) Double. He moved with his parents to Williams County, OH, at age 3, and lived at that place until 18, working on the farm. In 1884, he moved to Montmorency County, MI, and taught in the public schools for 6 years. He served as township clerk, supervisor, county school examiner and chairman of the board of supervisors. In January , 1895 , he took charge of the county clerk's office as deputy county clerk, and was elected county clerk in 1896 and 1898.
