Of English descent.
Studied law in an Ovid law office for two years before attending the University of Michigan. He was admitted to the bar in 1898. Practiced in Chicago ( 1898-1907) and Marion IN (2 years) before returning to Ovid in 1910 to practice law there.

According to House Concurrent resolution No. 39, House Journal, 1958, p. 906, he died 3/14/1958.
