Son of John E. and Helen Perry. He moved to Michigan in 1837 but moved to Wisconsin until 1841. He returned to live in Parma and Concord in Jackson Co., MI. He moved to Union City, Branch Co., in 1851. He served as Sergeant-at-Arms in the state senate of 1855; postmaster of Union City from 1861-70 and justice of the peace for 32 years
