Eldest child of Marvin & Eliza (Petit) Williams. Moved to Genesee Co., MI, 1836. Taught school for a time. Went to Minnesota, 1857, for 1.5 years but returned to Genesee Co. He again taught during the winter & farmed in summer until 1864. That spring he moved to farm land purchased in Leelanau Co. Probate judge for 12 yrs, 1876-88; postmaster [6 yeas]; township clerk ]7 years]; justice of the peace [8 years], also school inspector, township treasurer and supervisor [4 years], county treasurer [2 years].
