Biographical Sketch:
Son of Peleg Redfield, a native Connecticutt, who moved to Manchester, NY in 1799 to farm. Admitted to the bar of NY in 1831. Moved to Michigan Territory in September, 1831, practicing law in Cassopolis. He was first postmaster of Cassopolis. He lived there for 17 years and held several local offices. Ill health caused him to travel. In 1848 he moved to Detroit. In 1857, he was appointed Indian Agent of the Upper Missouri for 2 years. In 1858, he was involved in the treaty ceding land that became the Territory of South Dakota to the US. From 1859-61 he was agent for the Yancton tribe. In October, 1863 through 1867 he was appointed Controller by the Detroit Common Council. He resigned this position in Sept. 1867 but stayed on until January 1, 1868.
