Biographical Sketch:
The oldest of 9 children of Evans and Abigail (Hawley) Hazard, Chester Hazard moved in with an Uncle in 1806 and stayed until he was 17. He partnered in a tanning and shoe-making business, which ended when his partner stole everything. He farmed with his father and grandfather (2 and 5 years respectively) he saved $500 and started farming and tanning businesses in Wheeler, Steuben County, NY. 10 years later he purchased 320 acres of unbroken land in Fenoa, Livingston County, MI. He held several positions in local and state government. He was a Democrat.
Notable Facts:
Rep.Dist. 6 puts his birth in 1876 but then lists several dates of importance previous to this year. It is believe to be a misprint. His mother belonged to one of the old Puritan families of Connecticut.
