Born of Dutch and English parents. Son of Jeremiah W. and Lodicia S. (Platt) Brott. Lived on a farm and attended school until he was 23 years old when he learned the carpenter's trade and followed that profession for 5 years. Then went to Moorland where he worked in the manufacture of lumber and shingles for 8 years and worked in the mercantile business there and then in Boardman. Held the offices of Postmaster of Moorland, Clerk of Moorland Township, Muskegon County and Supervisor of Boardman township and Supervisor of Boardman Township.
