He emigrated in 1842 and came to Michigan in 1843. He spent 1 year in Armada, 2 as a clerk in Detroit. In 1846 he settled in Clarkston as a merchant, becoming a farmer in 1854. In 1860, he owned and operated flouring mills in Waterford in connection with a store. After 1865, he became a leading merchant in East Saginaw. By 1873, he had established his salt and lumber interests in Saginaw County. He reportedly founded Owendale in Huron Co. He served as mayor, alderman and water commissioner of East Saginaw
Notable Facts:
There are 2 Find-a-Grave records for him; in one he is buried in Clarkston, in the other in Saginaw. Death certificate says he was to be taken to Saginaw. 1901 obit notes that he was one of ten children and English roots could be traced back over 200 years.
