Biographical Sketch:
Son of Isaac and Betsy (Noble) Ormsby. He was involved in real estate in Ann Arbor as well as medicine. He served as village assessor in 1837, supervisor in 1838 and trustee in 1845 He went to California in 1849 as a part of the gold rush and did not attempt to return to his Michigan home until 1857. Unfortunately, after traveling to Panama and crossing the ithmus, he embarked on the S.S. "Central America". He was among the 440 people who perished when the ship was sunk in a storm off the coast of North Carolina. His body was lost at sea.

Notable Facts:
First doctor in Adrian, MI. Died at sea on the S.S. Central America, lost in hurricane winds.
