Biographical Sketch:
Son of James and Rebecca Ruth (Cresap) Ord. James Ord, an English emigrant, was the Indian Agent in Sault Ste. Marie, 1837-1847. Received the rank of Colonel while living in California and served as US Attorney for the Southern District of California [1854-58]. He was killed in a carriage accident on July 7, 1876 in San Antonio, TX.

Notable Facts:
Brother of Major General Edward Ortho Cresap Ord with whom he served during the Civil War. Received brevet ranks of 1st Lieutenant, Captain, and Major for gallant and meritorious service in the Siege of Vicksburg, MS; Siege of Petersburg, Virginia; and Battle of Chapin’s Farm.
