Has been a farmer practically all his life; has been master of the local Grange five years; is a member of the board of managers of the Farmers' Mutual Fire Insurance Co., of Ionia county, and a member of the board of managers of the Alto Creamery Association. Served twenty-one consecutive years as member of the school board.
