Biographical Sketch:
Of Scottish, Dutch and English descent. Son of Hugh and Mary A.(Bradley) McCallum. He moved with his parents to Arnprior, Ontario in 1858. At the age of 17, he went into the lumber woods and engaged in the lumber business in various capacities from teamster to manager of logging and manufacturing concerns for 37 years. He came to Michigan in 1868, settling in Flint, moved to Lapeer in 1870, to Ogemaw county in 1881 and to Schoolcraft county in 1892. He was manager of the Delta Lumber Co. at Thompson until 1898, and in 1899 moved to Manistique . He engaged in the real estate and newspaper business from about 1901-1907. He was a member of the board of supervisors in the counties of Ogemaw and Schoolcraft, and the fourth ward of Manistique. He served as school director, township treasurer, justice of the peace and U. S. commissioner.
