Biographical Sketch:
Scotch-Irish ancestry. Son of Andrew P. and Amy Elizabeth (Bird) Glaspie. He taught school for a short time in Goodison and Orion before attending Michigan State Normal School, Ypsilanti, where he played football. He coached football in 1897. He served one year as a member of Company G, Thirty-first Michigan infantry, during the Spanish-American war. Upon his return, he partnered with E. Henry Congdon and became the co-publisher and editor of the Oxford Leader until 1936. Served 8 years as Oxford's postmaster; as a member of the Oxford School Board
In 1899 he engaged in the printing and publishing business; editor of the Michigan Sportsman for 2 years. From 1921 to 1927, Glaspie engaged in an mercantile business with a partner named Charles (C.A.) Webster. At the time of his death he was outdoor editor for the Pontiac Daily Press (now The Oakland Press), a position he had held for a number of years.
Notable Facts:
Father was civil war veteran; his grandfather served in the war of 1812; his great-great grandfather in the Revolutionary war. Andrew's death certificate is under A. Bird Glaspie. Died of heart disease.
