Biographical Sketch:
Son of New England parents. Moved to Ohio at the openeing of the Civil War where his father enlisted in the 67th Ohil Vol. and fell at the battle of the deep bottoms in the seven day fight.

Notable Facts:
He took up newspaper work at an early age and after returning to Michigan in 1881 went west conducting a newspaper in Kansas for three years. He returned to Kalamazoo and established a printing business which included publishing the Advocate.
