Biographical Sketch:
Son of Samuel and Anna (Fargo) Dexter. He came to Ionia in 1833 with his father at about age 15. Located on 120 acres of land near Ionia in 1838. He was associated with his father in the management of his extensive business until his fathre's retirement, when he took over the entire management. For nearly 30 years he was extensively engaged in manufacturing and shipping flour and dealing in wheat, leading him to deal with almost every farmer within a radius of 20 miles, and with almost every man in the county. He was elected supervisor; county treasurer. He was also Receiver of public moneys in the U. S. Land Office at Ionia, serving four years. Upon leaving his interest in the mill at Ionia, he transferred his business interests to Evart in Oceola County.
