Biographical Sketch:
Admitted to the bar in 1899. He served as law clerk of the State Senate, 1903-07; Deputy Commissioner of Railroads, 1907, and was the first secretary of the Michigan Railroad Commission; State Representative, 1909-1910, at which time he was an author of the Warner-Cramton liquor law; Representative in Congress, 7th district, 1913-31; special attorney to Secretary of Interior, 1931-33; circuit judge, fortieth circuit, 1934-41; delegate to the Republican National Convention, 1940; during World War I given decorations by the governments of Sebia and Greece; received citation from the American Civic and planning Association for "Outstanding Service to the Nation's Capitol" in 1950; in 1952 received the medal of Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Masons; in 1953 the Amity Award of the Women's Division of Michigan Jewish Council; past grand master of I.O.O.F.; past district governor of Rotary International; vice president of Tall Pine Council of Boy Scouts and awarded the Silver Beaver in 1951; member of the Detroit Society for Genealogical Research, Mayflower Society and Virginia Society for the Preservation of Antiquities. Discontinued the practice of law, 1905 & published the Lapeer County Clarion 1905-1923; law clerk of the State senate 3 terms; deputy comm. of railroads of Michigan, 1907; sec. of the Michigan Railroad Commission 9/1907-1/1/1909; circuit judge of the 40th judicial circuit from 11/21/1934-12/31/1941.
