Biographical Sketch:
Son of Charles Victor and Mary Elizabeth (Perry) Deland. In 1903 was appointed deputy county treasurer. Upon his arrival in Jackson, he began the study of law and in 1905 was admitted to the bar. From 1906-1910 he was chairman of the Republican county committee and was a member of the constitutional convention of 1907. He served as Michigan's secretary of state, 1921-1926.
