Biographical Sketch:
Son of Jacob S. and Olive (Coe) Farrand. He was elected to the legislature in 1924, being drafted as a citizen for a "civic duty." He began his long business career in 1870 as an employee of the wholesale drug house of Farrand Williams & Co. In 1884, he became treasurer of the Whitney Organ Co., later re-organized into the Farrand Organ Co. of which he became president. He sold his interest in the company in 1913. Mayor Hazen S. Pingree appointed him a member of the first Public Lighting Commission of Detroit. He was for a time president of the Detroit Board of Estimates. He was a trustee of Harper Hospital. He was also engaged with real estate and insurance. Member of the Detroit Club.
Notable Facts:
Born in his family's home which was located on the future site of the Hudson's Department Store in Detroit. Died of heart disease.
