Biographical Sketch:
Of Lebanese descent. Served as a police and fire commissioner in Highland Park from 1959-64. Founded the Peerless Sales Co., selling appliances, furniture and jewelry. Best known for his lobbying firm, Karoub Associates, founded in 1968. It is thought to be the first fully staffed, fulltime lobbying firm in Michigan. CEO of the Michigan Racing Assoc. and on the boards a few raceways. At about 54 he had a kidney transplant, receiving a kidney from his brother, Carl. Died of cancer at age 65.Member of the Arab-American Chaldean Assoc and Fraternal Order of Police.
Notable Facts:
Nicknamed 'King Jimmy' because he was so influential.
Funeral conducted via the Santein Funeral Home in Garden City, MI; services conducted by his brother Imam Muhammad Karoub, director of the Foundation of Islamic Associations.
