Biographical Sketch:
He began the trade of printer in 1836, practicing until 1861. he established the Jackson 'Citizen' in 1848 and owned it until 1861. He served as Clerk of the House in 1857; alderman and supervisor for several years. He was a captain of Co. C, 9th Michigan Infantry; later promoted as Colonel of the 1st Michigan Sharpshooters and Brevet Brigadier General for his 'faithful' service. In 1865, he moved to East Saginaw where he was associated with the daily 'Enterprise'. There he was street commissioner, marshal, city controller, chief engineer, supervisor and tax collector. For 6 years he was collector of Internal Revenue. In 1872, he started the Saginaw 'Morning Herald', publishing it until 1882 when he moved back to Jackson County to farm.
