Biographical Sketch:
The youngest of 5 children of Alvan and Rebecca (Cox) Isbell. He was of feeble constitution and had to abandon his pre-college studies. Through reading and conversations with his father (who held several political offices), he soon became known and sought out for his political conversations and opinions. This allowed him to become one of the youngest Michigan Senators and Justice of the Peace. He held several local and state positions but always put his farming first. His parents and youngest sister came to live on his farm, and after they all died he purchased the Lasing House to live in. He refused any political offices after that. He claimed no membership in any groups and religions although he supported the Baptists the most.
