Biographical Sketch:
Son of Col. Thomas and Abigail (Smith) Jenness, a revolutionary officer. Lived on his grandfather's farm in New Hampshire. Lived briefly in NY, NJ and Romeo, MI. Moved to Almont, MI, at age 24, in 1837, and opened a merchandising business in Detroit. Briefly ran a business that produced starch from potatoes. Began Jenness & Co. (lumber & general merchandise) in Almont MI in 1845 and moved there 1846. He retired from business at age 45 due to ill health. President, Almont Village 1866-7. Moved back to Detroit in 1870. Lived to age 92. Member Whig & Republican parties.
