Biographical Sketch:
Came to Richland, MI, May 1844 with his parents. For a time he worked as a carpenter in the summer and taught during the winter. He moved to Hastings in 1853 to be a merchant. He published the 'Hastings Banner' from 1857-66. He served as county superintendent of the poor for 18 years, as secretary of the county agricultural society for 12 and as school trustee for 18. He postmaster for Hastings from 1875-83.
