Biographical Sketch:
Son of R. Bruce & Phoebe E. (Devereaux)
Haight. Attended Pontiac High School. He had a life certificate as a registered pharmacist. Worked as a roundhouse hostler & locomotive fireman for the Pontiac, Oxford & Port Austin RR. & later other RRs; a telegrapher. Went to France for the YMCA, 1918. Practiced law in Lansing for many yrs as well as engaging in real estate development.
In 1903 acted as assistant secretary of the Grand Lodge, I.O.O.F. of Michigan. In 1911 he was elected judge of the municipal court of the city of Lansing, and was re-elected in 1915. During the summer of 1918 he resigned and went to France with the A.E.F. as a Y.M.C.A. secretary, having charge of he educational work among the American soldiers in the Nantes, France, division.
House Resolution No. 13, p. 356, 1954 House Journal indicated that he died 2/13/1954.
Notable Facts:
Lansing's Haight Brothers Subdivision was developed by Charles & his brother. Member of the Odd Fellows; BPOE (Elks);
Republican and was elected to the legislature in 1922, 1924, and 1926, and re-elected November 6, 1928, by a vote of 20,193 to 5,265 for D. D. Harris, 1930 and again elected November 6, 1934.
