He settled in Calhoun County, MI in 1845 and moved to Lenawee County in 1853. he held various town offices including supervisor of Tecumseh for 5 years, and chairman of the board of supervisors for Lenawee County. He was president or secretary for Farmers' Mutual Fire Insurance Co. of Lenawee County for 14 years; president of the Lenawee County Agricultural Society for 5 years.
