He graduated from the local high school in Jackson in 1911. He attended Albion College from 1914 to 1916, and then took up the study of law in the University of Michigan, graduating there in 1919.
Biographical Sketch:
After Graduating school worked as a clerk in the city treasurer's office. He was admitted to the bar in 1919, and elected police judge the same year, serving as such untill he was elected to the office of prosecuting attorney in 1922, which office he held for four years.

Republican and was elected to the legislature November 2, 1926, by a vote of 6,641 to 3,507 for James M. Blashfield.
